The Development of Technology will lead to a brighter future on Medical Treatment

On June 10, 2017, The Director of Minimally Invasive Targeted Treatment of St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou, Dr. Bai Haishan shared his clinical experience on “Radioactive particle seed Implantation combined with Nano-knife Treatment”, at the 17th National Conference on Radioactive Particle Seed Implantation Treatment.

According to Professor’s Bai Hai Shan the “Nano-knife Treatment” is considered to be the latest cutting-edge tumor ablation technology that releases high voltage DC short pulse in the tumor cells to form permanent perforation which in turn causes the disruption of intracellular balance and eventually the cell will commit suicide in the process known as apoptosis.

Nano-knife treatment is a non-thermal ablation technology, because of it only affects the cell membrane lipid bilayers whereas, membrane proteins and other molecules are conserved. Therefore, not only does it kills the tumor cells but at the same time it also protects the blood vessels, nerves, bile duct, vas deferens and other important regions that in some cases, the tumor happens to be very near.

On June 2015, China has officially approved the clinical application of Nano-knife treatment at St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou. Director Bai Haishan, a minimally invasive specialist, has performed more than 40 times clinical application of Nano-knife treatment to liver tumor and pancreatic tumor patients which have promising results.

Particle Seed Implantation is a breakthrough in the field of tumor radiotherapy, while improving the efficacy of the traditional radiotherapy it also greatly reduce the damage caused by the side effects of the radiotherapy. Professor Zhang Fuchang, the Chief scientist of the department of minimally invasive Treatment for Cancer tumors at St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou, said that: “At present, the particle seed implantation treatment is suitable for malignant tumors in advanced prostate cancer, cervical cancer, multiple lung metastases of cancer, and liver metastases." Moreover, he made mention that: “the use of particle seed implantation on high degree malignancy of pancreatic cancer has an effective rate of 40-70% and the median survival rate is significant increased that it can extend up to 1 year and the maximum is up to 19 months.

However, the treatment of cancer, with the treatment of Nano-knife approach will not always be suitable for large tumors and with its seemingly high cost. Taking these into account, Director Bai Haishan introduces the "radioactive particles seed implantation combined with Nano-knife treatment for clinical application." Therefore, the treatment result will make a significant difference which can achieve 1 + 1 ≥ 2 effects.

Professor Bai Haishan was interview by news media

Dr. Bai Hai Shan proposed the research topic "radioactive particle seed implantation combined with Nano-knife treatment” through the basis of innovation on cancer treatment. In the era of advance treatment technology, more and more patients will now eventually experience quality healthcare treatment.
